So basically the definitive edition generally looks worse than the original as the DE has much more washed out lighting, lower quality reflections and character texture detail while having a lot more environmental fog, higher NPC density and breakable objects. Thanks for this detailed comparison video.

So you're 5 dollars just goes to Square and whoever they contracted to make this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ PS4 port. The company who made the game for squeenix died. Originally posted by McBoober:It's objectively worse than the original version of the game.įind the original through your own means.

I think this is a great game, at its core, and it's really sad to see that the devs have gone under and SquEnix (seeiingly) have no interest in furthering the IP. IMO, it's worth it, but that's largely because I love SD and was even a fan of Triad Wars.

This can be slightly corrected via input binding software bind Mouse4 as Mouse5 in an input binding program, however you won't be able to bind Mouse5 to anything else. Not being able to bind movement to the up, down, left and right keys from the original is gone, but there is now a bug where bouth Mouse 5 and Mouse4 input is read as Mouse 5 when rebinding keys. While the visual overhauls make the game look better, the gamepay changes might take a bit to get used to. You might not even notice the improvements until you go back to the original.

The improvements make the game look better, but the improvements are rather subtle. If you really liked SD, then I'd say to get the DE. Whether it's worth it or not is hard to say. mostly notably on Jackie Ma's chain wallet while he walks), higher population density (VERY noticeable in Night Market) and has some minor tweaks to gameplay (countering lasts longer, drifting is a little lighter when driving).

SD:DE has new lighting effects, mist, fog, animated neon signs, HD textures by default, reworked textures on some charcters (Pendrew is a good example), includes all DLC, reworked how DLC items are implemented (mostly as purchases in-game and sometimes rewards for missions/side-jobs), added more objects in the game world, minor storyline characters have unique skins instead of being minions, lots of texture changes and overhauls to the environment, more objects to do environment kills/breaks, animations are more fluid, objects on player models and they now have movement (necklaces, chain wallets, etc.
